Rural Ireland Itinerary:
Saturday, August 9 – We meet in the a.m. at the Shannon Airport, load our gear and travel to Connemara and Dan O'Hara's Heritage farm, and Bed and Breakfast. Dan O'Hara's will be our home for three nights as we explore the surrounds, including a personal guided tour of the historical farm site. Arriving in mid-afternoon, we may have time for a half-day photographing. Lunch is your responsibility.
Sunday, August 10 – After our included breakfast, we have the entire day to photograph at the farm and heritage site and begin learning the Tintype process. Dan O'Hara's is also in the midst of some of Connemara's breath-taking mountain scenery. We will take a local transport to Clifton town in the evening to explore this very traditional town and choose a pub or restaurant on you own for an evening meal.
Monday, August 11 – After breakfast, we travel by private bus to Roundstone, a little harbor town where will will spend the day discovering and photographing. Dinner, which is included, will be at Vaughan's, know for their fresh local seafood.
Tuesday, August 12 – After breakfast we bid Dan farewell and travel into the countryside, possibly Ballynahinch Castle grounds or Kylemore Abbey. After lunch in Oughtergard, we will head to Co. Clare, with a stop at Kinvara (Dunquire Castle). Our home base will be Drumcreehy House B & B, just outside Ballyvaughan. Drumcreehy House is in a rural area, with sea views, church ruins and traditional Irish cottages a short walk from their lovely grounds. Our next four nights will be spent in the capable hands of hosts, Armin and Bernadette. Our evening meal (included) will be at one of Ballyvaughn's newest and highly praised restaurants.
Wednesday, August 13 – After our hosts' ample breakfast, we begin to explore the area of Burren. Today we photography at Corcomroe Abbey, the 13th century ruins of Franciscan monks. Break for lunch at Kinvara. Evening meal (included) at Ballyvaughn restaurant.
Thursday, August 14 – After breakfast, we head off to a locally known fair ring (yes, really) and then through the unique Burren landscape to the small local town of Kilfenora. In addition to the Burren Centre there, the town has also been known for its championship musicians. We will spend the rest of the day here, photographing high crosses, church ruins, storefronts, local merchants and outlying fields/houses. Lunch here as well, and then back to Ballyvaughan in the late afternoon for dinner in town, on your own (choose your pub).
Friday, August 15 – After breakfast this day is open for exploration and will vary according to interests and weather. We may end up a local farm, explore more ruins, or visit another small town. Lunch and dinner is on your own.
Saturday, August 16 – You will regret to leave Drumcreehy House's tasty breakfasts. (I guarantee it.) We will head toward Shannon, with time spent at the little town of Quinn. Lunch and dinner is up to you. We will overnight at a local farmhouse B&B with transport back to the airport early Sunday a.m.
